Assignment Part 2

Our topic for this tech group assignment is to look at the pros and cons associated with using generative AI software to mark assessments/assignments in the classroom. As a teacher it is incredibly time consuming to mark the hundreds of assignments, tests, quizzes and more that you hand out throughout the year, and any time saved is more weight off our backs. AI is a generally new tool that teachers are beginning to investigate, so how well can it be utilized in the marking of assessments?

In the video above we discuss the pros and cons of AI for marking, and our findings are as follows:

Pros of using it Cons of using it
– Efficiency
– Less teacher burnout
– Ability to have more assessments and feedback more quickly
– Consistency between/across assignments
– Removal of personal biases
– Can be hypocritical telling students no AI, then using it for everything
– Overreliance
– Inability to justify grades to students and parents
– AI hallucinations -> False information could penalize students
– Would AI catch AI grading through a rubric?

We also determined that when it comes to AI for grading and especially providing feedback the use of descriptive and complete prompts is crucial if it is to be implemented and that regardless of how good it can be you have the duty to look it over and ensure that no misinformation or incorrect grading has taken place.
